How was the Fund set up?
In 2010, Ugo Lapointe was sued for $350,000 by an oil company for comments made in an article in the newspaper Le Soleil. The CQDE and the Centre de recherche et d'information en droit de l'environnement (CRIDE) judged this lawsuit to be abusive, and supported CQDE's partner lawyers who defended Mr. Lapointe.
The CQDE and CRIDE set up the Fonds Ugo Lapointe pour la liberté d'expression to help him and, more broadly, to protect the freedom of expression of citizens who take part in public debates on the environment.
